Indigenous Connections

We regularly support the Indigenous Hospitality House, and a number meet as the Exploring First Peoples (EFP) group to keep issues of reconciliation, justice, and deepening understanding on our agenda.

Ecumenical connections

We have a close relationship with Pilgrim Uniting Church in Seddon, sharing special events, and meditation groups. We participate in a March of Witness every Good Friday with several local congregations.

Local Community CONNECTIONS

Westgate Baptist Community established Westgate Community Initiatives Group (WCIG) in 1989. WCIG is now an independent body, but the relationship between us continues.

Westgate Health Co-Op was also established by Westgate Baptist Community. It operates independently and continues to provide a wide range of health services for local residents. There are clinics located in South Kingsville and Newport.

We support Yarraville Village – collecting food waste from several businesses, and sharing in the annual Yarraville Festival. We are grateful for the support of Maribyrnong City Council and our local MP in financially supporting our composting, kitchen, and meals development programs.

Multi-faith connections

We have an occasional but growing relationship with the Australian Light Foundation – an Islamic community in Sunshine. We have visited each other’s special services and are seeking to deepen mutual respect and understanding.

Baptist connections

We are part of the Baptist Union of Victoria.

We support Global Interaction, the Baptist missionary agency.

We support Baptist World Aid, the aid and development agency of Baptist churches in Australia.

We support Whitley College, the Baptist College of Victoria.

We support, and have benefited from the support of, Baptcare in our community ventures.

Charitable connections

In 1992, a few people created an informal fund to help meet unexpected financial needs. They donated a few dollars each week and anyone experiencing a tough time could ask for help.

In 2002, a formal trust was set up with three Westgate members as trustees. This received DGR status from the ATO, which meant that donations to the fund are allowable income tax deductions.

In 2012, the Australian Tax Office requested that the fund be made independent of the church, and it was issued its own ABN (69 884 487 401). The Economic Sharing Fund is now administered by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission

A pastor of the church can assist with making a claim on the the Economic Sharing Fund.

To make a tax-deductible donation to the Fund, visit our Giving page.
